Rhema Bible Church believes that its suspended pastor Brian Hogan has questionable motives against it and senior pastor Ray McCauley after taking the church to court last week.
Pastor Brian Hogan, 61, was suspended in April after he voiced doubts about the church's purchase of a R3,5million luxury apartment in Umhlanga near Durban.
The property was bought by the church from senior pastor Ray McCauley in 2005 and has been used by pastors when they go away for retreats.
A Sunday newspaper quoted Hogan saying that McCauley and his wife had benefited because they did not incur any estate agent's commission costs which would have been close to R200000.
Last week the labour court in Johannesburg awarded Hogan an interim interdict that prevented the church from taking disciplinary action against him.
In his court papers Hogan said that he had alerted colleagues to his concern about whether the church was allowed to buy property that would not be used for God's work.
"We do not understand why Hogan is raising his concerns about the property now, when he has been using the apartment since it was bought," said church spokesman Vusi Mona.
