The department of agriculture and environmental affairs in KwaZulu-Natal is to erect a monument and a memorial site to honour all officials who have died while on duty.

Four department officials have died in the past four months.

Two senior officials, Thobile Mbambo and Siyabonga Ngwenya, died in a car crash last week while on their way back from the department's Jozini office in northern Zululand.

The department's MEC Mtholephi Mthimkhulu said the site will be erected at the department's head office in Cedara, Pietermaritzburg, and will include the names of all officials who have died while on duty.

Mbambo was the department's chief work-study analyst in the job evaluation component, while Ngwenya was the chief work-study analyst in the organisational development component.

The two officials were part of the team tasked with ensuring maximum productivity in the department.

The other two officials in the department were killed while on duty earlier this year.
