Top golfers from all over Gauteng are invited to take part in the yearly golf day at Benoni Lake today.

Top golfers from all over Gauteng are invited to take part in the yearly golf day at Benoni Lake today.

The event that has been used to raise funds for the past five years, collecting almost than R1,9 million for the needy and for the improvement of golf courses in Ekurhuleni.

This tournament has attracted a number of casual and professional golfers, and is used by Ekurhuleni mayor Duma Nkosi as a networking opportunity for Ekurhuleni stakeholders, politicians and staff members.

Nkosi said the funds from this event will be allocated for the development of soccer in the build-up to the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Since it was launched five years ago, the golf day has benefitted courses such as Glen Dower, Kempton Park and Reading Golf Club in Alberton.

The golf day provides an opportunity for aspiring golfers, especially those from the previously disadvantaged communities, to show off their skills. - Sowetan
