The party between Dali Mpofu and President Thabo Mbeki is over.
This after Mpofu filed another urgent court application in the Johannesburg high court yesterday against the SABC, Mbeki, Gabriel Mampone and national Minister of Communications Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri.
The application to challenge Mpofu's third suspension was filed by his legal representative, Sandile July. Mpofu was suspended as SABC group chief executive officer last week, the third time in two months.
Mpofu, in this latest court bid, wants the meeting that was held by the SABC board on June 11, in which he and two other members were asked to leave before the decision to suspend him was taken, to be declared unlawful.
He wants his suspension and the institution of a disciplinary inquiry against him set aside as unlawful.
The application also seeks to compel Mbeki and Matsepe-Casaburri to "take the necessary steps towards the removal of the SABC board".
"We have filed the court papers and will be going to court on Tuesday," July said.
Mpofu was first suspended on allegations of misconduct on May 7, a day after he suspended SABC news chief Snuki Zikalala. He accused Zikalala of leaking confidential information to the media.
Two weeks later Mpofu challenged his suspension in court. The judge ruled in his favour and he was reinstated.
But the SABC board announced it would appeal the court decision. I ts application for leave to appeal was dismissed.
On June 4 Mpofu was asked by board chairman Khanyi Mkhonza to make written representations as to why he should not be suspended pending an internal investigation against him.
On June 12 he received another suspension letter.
