Rapula is Setswana for "one who brings rain" and is the name given to Manfred Brussow, a white farmer.

Brussow has leased his land to Bakwena-Ba-Mogopa in Bethanie, North West, for crop and vegetable farming. He has also offered technical and management support to the villagers.

On Saturday villagers carried Brussow shoulder high after his land was handed over by North West MEC for agriculture, conservation and environment Jan Serfontein.

A total of 87 title deeds valued at R99,6million were taken over by the BakwenaBa-Mogopa.

Brussow has gone into partnership with the Ngwanadirane Communal Property Association to start business ventures.

"They include an agreement with Sheerprops, a company through which the tribe will supply vegetables to Pick 'n Pay and fresh produce markets," Brussow said.
