Residents of KwaThema, Springs, converged at the local police station to pray for divine intervention to find Detective Jotham Elias Mthethwa who has been missing for the past two months.

Those present also prayed for the speedy recovery of Constable Nolwandle Moeti, a female police reservist who was shot in the head by alleged hostel dwellers in April, during a volatile stand-off between police and hostel inmates.

At the time of the near-fatal shooting, Moeti, 24, was among members of the SAPS deployed to the local hostel after inmates were alleged to have illegally connected electricity to their rooms without permission from the municipality.

Mthethwa was a member of the crack KwaThema detective squad, and went missing on the morning of May 7 - soon after booking in the state vehicle he was using for night shift.

Speaking to Sowetan, KwaThema police spokesman Captain Enoch Dube said: "As the SAPS, we have come to realise that there is a need for divine intervention at the local police station.

"Without this intervention, the community and police will not be able to root out crimes."

In an emotional sermon on Tuesday, Pastor Lucky Williams said the reason why the country faced such evil deeds was because fathers, as heads of households, have abdicated their roles as men and also as Christians.

"This abdication of our position as fathers started in the garden of Eden when Adam messed it up.

"Because of this mess, even the church is in a chaotic state. But we can reverse the situation with faith in God and being like God."
