A 30-year-old man was found dead in the street after a quarrel with his cousin over R1,50 to buy a cigarette.

Hlanganisa Dumela of Embalenhle, near Evander in Mpumalanga, allegedly quarrelled with his 31-year-old cousin at a neighbour's house on Saturday evening.

Inspector Magonseni Nkosi of the Embalenhle police said the cousins were watching television with other people at a neighbour's house when a quarrel started over R1,50 to buy a cigarette.

Nkosi said the two were making a lot of noise and the homeowner finally ordered them to leave at about 8pm.

Apparently the quarrel continued on their way home.

He said Dumela's body was found lying in the street by passers-by who alerted the police.

"The body had a stab wound to the chest," he said.

Nkosi said the 31-year-old cousin was taken in for questioning and was due to appear in the Evander magistrate's court on a charge of murder late yesterday afternoon.
