Tshwane municipality has embarked on a project to inculcate a mentality of attending live matches among local residents, using Bafana Bafana as a vehicle.

Bafana Bafana are now playing their home games at Super Stadium in Atteridgeville, where they have done pretty well in their past two fixtures.

They routed Paraguay 3-0 in an international friendly in March and went on to offer a free soccer lesson to Equatorial Guinea two weeks ago, winning the game 4-1.

On Saturday, Bafana Bafana return to the former mecca of Tshwane soccer where they welcome Sierra Leone in a grudge 2010 World Cup-Africa Cup of Nations match.

Godfrey Nkwane, Tshwane Municipality's World Cup chief executive, said they were working with various community structures on the project.

Nkwane said they wanted to ensure that Bafana Bafana and other countries that will be taking part in the 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup get maximum support.

"As part of the project, we are making buses available to ferry the residents for free from their respective residential areas to the match venues," he said.

"We also subsidise the entrance fees of those fans, which is working tremendously well for us and we are excited about it.

"We are doing this to ensure that we give Bafana Bafana all the support that they need to become a strong contender during the two Fifa events.

"As we are all aware, there will be other countries participating. We want to see our venues packed, similar to the ongoing 2008 Euro Cup in Austria and Switzerland.

"Having these major events in our city also helps on the social and economic front," said Nkwane, adding that the upgrading of Super Stadium was also well on track.

Super Stadium has a rich history in South African soccer. It is the venue where The Romans, Pretoria Callies, used to run riot against other local giants.
