More than 70 lucky pupils from Ekurhuleni and Mamelodi took to the skies on Saturday.
The National Youth Development Trust and Aero Club of South Africa hosted the event at Panorama Airfield.
Trust chief executive Adrian Meyer said 75 pupils from schools such as Vlakfontein, Solomon Mahlangu and Gatang Secondary took part.
"We were trying to bridge the gap between education and the profession," Meyer said.
He said the pupils went for a flip in five aircraft .
"We used one fixed-wing aircraft, two microlight planes and two helicopters," he said.
Ernest Kekana of 100percent black-owned aircraft charter and management company K-5 Aviation said his company also planned to train more black pilots.
Meyer said Business Against Crime South Africa had helped conceive their organisation and was also involved in the aviation day.
Meyer said: "Business Against Crime South Africa recommended that we guide the youth, who are our future. Having Mike Lamberti closes the circle for us."
