"No one is above the ANC," Zuma told an ANC Youth League rally in Thaba'Nchu.

Zuma said the party had since January focused on building unity but would now focus on discipline.

"We will dedicate our energy to working with all structures to remove hooligans and those who are bent on bringing the ANC into disrepute," he said.

Zuma told the gathering that the party was alarmed by the new trend to take the ANC to court when a dispute developed. He said this was done instead of allowing internal processes in the ANC to deal with the matter.

Zuma said the ANC had a huge responsibility to provide, through the government, for the basic needs of the people.

"The movement cannot and should not be sidetracked into fighting court battles against its members."

The ANC president said that this was destroying the movement.

He also expressed his disappointment at the tendency to disrupt provincial meetings.

He referred specifically to the meeting in Western Cape at which provincial secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha was stabbed.

"Let me reiterate that we are not going to make the ANC a haven for hooligans and criminals," Zuma warned.

Meanwhile, a six-member task team headed by ANC national executive committee member Nosizwe Madlala-Routledge has taken over the administration of the ANC in the Boland, the SABC reported yesterday. Party members were told that the regional executive committee had been dissolved.

The SABC announced that Skwatsha was stabbed at an ANC meeting in Worcester last Thursday while trying to tell the gathering that the ANC's regional committee in the Boland had been dissolved.

The task team will manage the region until new office bearers are elected at the beginning of next month. - Sapa
