An unholy battle has erupted between a Pretoria gospel group and three of its backing vocalists.

This after the three members had half of their salaries allegedly deducted by the group's managers for failing to report for practice sessions.

Bana Ba Kanana, one of the most loved gospel groups in Soshanguve, n, allegedly paid Paballo Bilankulu, Mmatlala Maisela and Betty Ribane R1000 each - which is half of their salaries.

The trio's failure to show up for practices apparently, created panic within management, who decided to replace them.

The deductions at the end of the month affected the three. They were told that half of their salaries were used to pay people who stood in for them during their absence.

An informant in the group said the decision had lowered morale in the choir as many of their colleagues believe that it was unfair.

A source said the group was preparing to record their volume 16 hit, titled "Eloi", when the three failed to pitch up for practice without any explanation.

"Those who were called to stand in for them went with the group to the studio on the recording day despite the arrival of Maisela, Ribane and Bilankulu.

"Management felt it would be unfair to leave them out as they had been practising.

"But the three have vowed to take the management to task," said a source

Maisela and Bilankulu confirmed that they were paid half their salaries.
