Baroka clinch inaugural Mphahlele tourney

GaMphahlele-based Vodacom Promotional League outfit Baroka FC won the inaugural Khurishi Mphahlele top four tournament at Lebowakgomo Stadium on Sunday.

In their opening semifinal match Baroka beat SAB League side Maeba Chiefs 3-1, while FC Tebcon pipped another Vodacom League club, Mathote FC, 2-1 in the other semi.

Baroka beat FC Tebcon on penalties in the final after both clubs finished 2-2 in regulation time.

l Lehaiwa Secondary School clinched the Mohodi Community Radio Station's HIV-Aids and teenage pregnancy awareness campaign.

The event was held at Mohodi sports grounds, near Senwabarwana, Limpopo, on Saturday. In the first semifinal match Lehaiwa beat Bataung 1-0, while Seripa walloped Matswake 2-0.

The final was a closely contested affair, with Seripa and Lehaiwa failing to score during regulation time. The match was decided through penalties in favour of Lehaiwa who won 7-6.

Lehaiwa went home with a soccer kit, a floating trophy and gold medals, while Seripa got a certificate, trophy, a ball and silver medals.

Third-placed Matswake, who beat Bataung 2-1, got bronze medals.

"We are humbled by the commitment displayed by the teams and by our local youths for joining hands with us in the fight against HIV-Aids and teenage pregnancy," said Matlala Mehala, the station's spokesman.
