The jazz fraternity has been robbed of yet another musician in Rich Ramolefe.

Ramolefe, who became prominent a couple of years ago when he featured at some of the major jazz festivals, died on Saturday.

The jazzman had been ill for some time before succumbing to his illness at the Natalspruit Hospital.

Those close to him in the music industry say that the trumpeter, who distinguished himself by playing the challenging instrument using only one hand, was a rare talent.

"We discovered him when he performed at Miriam Makeba's birthday about 15 years ago," said jazz music promoter Sam Mhangwani. "We realised he was somebody we could groom to be a prominent jazz artist.

"We have since featured him at all the Tribute to South African Heroes concerts."

At the time of going to press, funeral arrangements had not yet been finalised.
