Church honour for Mbalula

Michael Tlhakudi

Former ANC Youth League president Fikile Mbalula will on Sunday receive an honorary award, a day before Youth Day, in Bloemfontein.

Mbalula will be honoured by the Eagle Christian Church in Mangaung.

The church, established in 2000, has in the past honoured former Free State premier Winkie Direko, former Bloemfontein Celtic boss Petrus Molemela and Bloemfontein businessman Freddy Kenny.

These people played pivotal roles in unifying the communities, said organiser Dan Motingoe.

Mbalula, who spent the greater part of his life in the Free State, was chosen for his outstanding success and excellence in the leadership role he played in the development of the youth in the Free State.

"Our church is made up of predominantly young people, so it is only proper to honour someone who contributed to their development," Motingoe said.

"We have also declared this month Mbalula month. He is a role model for many young people."
