As a I drove to work today in the bitter cold I couldn't help but admire the ladies who industriously swept the streets to keep them clean - and then cursed the person in a big, luxury car who casually tossed out rubbish at one woman's feet, as if she were their maid.

This wasn't a cigarette stompie, mind you, or even a snotty tissue (gross!).
This was a packet with waste in it, something that could have waited until the next stop, where this person could have found a dustbin.
But no, this person chose to toss leftovers at the feet of someone who deserves more respect than that.
Litter is like an alien weed. No matter how we try to get rid of it, it still seems to grow and grow, and stink out the best city in the country.
I would like to see more education about this problem and if people fail to learn from that, then we should fine and shame such people into respecting their fellow city dwellers, especially those who pick up after us.
