Odds can be beaten, said Moss Mashishi, president of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) yesterday.
Mashishi was giving a motivational speech after the announcement of the South African team for the 2008 Beijing Paralympics at Olympic House in Johannesburg.
"Go out there and show the world that, against all odds, anything is possible," stressed Mashishi.
The team, which consists of 60 budding athletes, will represent the country in athletics, aquatics, cycling, equestrian, powerlifting, rowing, table tennis, tennis and wheelchair basketball.
Mashishi is confident of success in August.
"The team is strong and has the depth to do us proud in Beijing. I urge all South Africans to rally behind them," he said.
In 2004 South Africa collected 35 medals - 15 gold, seven silver and 13 bronze - and hope to better that record.
Some of the stars who are expected to steer the 60-strong group to glory are Oscar Pistorius, Natalie du Toit, Zanele Situ and Ernst van Dyk.
