The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) said yesterday that almost 500 workers in Pixley ka Seme, Mpumalanga, will down tools in protest against racism, .

"This would also be in protest of the Pixley ka Seme municipality's attempt tomorrow [today] to interdict us in the Johannesburg labour court for wanting to strike," Samwu provincial secretary Kgokedi Mphahlele said.

Mphahlele said municipal bosses were abusing the legal system by applying for an interdict after correct processes were followed.

He said the strike would begin on Thursday.

Samwu was also angry that there had been no "transformation".
