Garages' hopes of getting a 11,94 cents a litre increase in the government regulated dealers' margin on petrol were dashed this month. June's 50 cents a litre petrol price increase includes an extra five cents for garages, taking the dealers' margin to 64,7 cents. With 93 octane commonly used inland now costing R9,83 a litre, this gives garages a slightly wider profit margin of 6,6percent from May's 6,4percent. - Robert Laing
