Cop killer given life behind bars

The Johannesburg high court yesterday sentenced a 26-year-old man who shot and killed a traffic police officer in February last year to life imprisonment.

Judge Seun Moshidi sentenced Kwenzakwenduna Khonzuyise Khathi for killing Xolisile Luvalo of Soweto on the N12 freeway.

Khathi was also found guilty of attempted robbery and possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition. He was sentenced to five years on each count.

Luvalo and a colleague, Bafana Dudley Mthethwa, were manning a speed camera on the N12 when they were attacked.

Khathi shot Luvalo at least eight times, intending to rob him of his service pistol. - Smanga Tshabalala
