The newly launched Nestlé Milo Championships, played under the auspices of the South African Schools Football Association, is sponsored to the tune R4,5million.

At the launch in Emmarentia on Friday, it was announced that the tournament will cater for the Under-13s and is open to all provinces.

"We have already started with the preparations for the tournament, it has already generated a lot of interest," said Themba Tshabalala, tournament director.

Steve Pila, Safsa general secretary, said the tournament will feature around 18000 primary schools and will kick off is two weeks' time.

Mandla Mazibuko, Safsa president, said: "This partnership is valuable for the development of school soccer, which is why Safsa agreed to enter into it with Nestlé.

"The development of the game is obviously a priority for Safsa. The partnership will also benefit the junior national teams like Majimbos and Amajita a great deal.

"This is also great news for the development of the game in general, because our clubs will also be able to get quality players from a very young age.

"We are hoping that the tournament will leave a legacy of well rounded and balanced kids who can play a skillful game, but also transfer the life skills learnt to their peers and immediate families."

Nestlé has roped in former Bafana Bafana defender Mark Fish as their ambassador of this tournament to help them educate the young about the benefits of healthy eating and healthy living.

Yves Manghardt, managing director and chairman of the sponsors, said the overall winners will go to Spain and watch Barcelona in action.
