Three people died yesterday after an accident involving a minibus and a truck on the N3 outside Bergville in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands.

Traffic officials said the minibus driver was changing a flat tyre when a truck crashed into his vehicle.

One person was seriously injured and taken to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital. Police are still investigating the accident.

In another accident, five trucks collided on the N3 at Van Reenen's Pass yesterday morning disrupting morning peak-hour traffic for several hours.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesman Zinhle Mngomezulu said the driver of one of the trucks lost control of the truck and overturned, resulting in four other trucks colliding at about 4am.

The drivers were slightly injured. Motorists were forced to use an alternative route because of the blockage.
