The alleged killer of Ivy Flietoor, whose naked body was found in the veld near Olievenhoutbosch in Midrand, Gauteng, last month has confessed to her rape and murder.

Captain Martin Hulk said Xolani Nyanda, a 30-year-old minibus taxi driver, confessed to Midrand police.

Winnies Bvuma, Flietoor's boyfriend, said: "The police said that he killed her by himself, but I don't believe them. I am sure there were others involved."

Nyanda was denied bail on May 15. He will appear in the Randburg magistrate's court on July 25, pending further investigation.

Flietoor's best friend, Ayanda Mlandu, was livid when she spoke about the investigation.

"The killer is in prison, but it is like he is on holiday. I bet he has all the rights of an innocent human being. I personally think that is unfair," she said.

Mlandu said that the death penalty should be brought back because people like Flietoor's killer were getting away with impunity.

Flietoor went missing on May 10 after she told her boyfriend that she was taking a taxi from Noord Street to their Noordwyk home in Midrand. Centurion police found Flietoor's body the next day and she was identified the following Thursday.

Flietoor was buried on May 24 in Bloemfontein.
