The North West government will hold a two-day 2010 Fifa World Cup safety and security summit from tomorrow.

Mandla Mathebula, spokesman for the province's department of transport, roads and community safety, said the summit, to be held at Rustenburg Civic Centre, would explore North West's readiness to handle security for the soccer event.

North West Premier Edna Molewa and Phenye Vilakazi, MEC for transport, roads and community safety, are expected to address the summit.

"The understanding is that people will not only be interested in the soccer matches.

"They will also want to explore other areas of interest, hence the importance of making the whole province safe during the tournament and beyond," said Mathebula.

The recent xenophobic violence would also be discussed.
