Two people were critically injured and two others seriously injured yesterday when a truck and car collided near Cato Ridge in KwaZulu-Natal

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the two people who were critically injured had been trapped in the car. One person had to be airlifted to hospital.

The accident took place just after midday on George Dale Road near Cato Ridge, 40km from Durban.

Zinhle Mngomezulu, spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal transport department, said the vehicles collided head-on.

In an unrelated incident, a truck driver was shot dead in Durban's Jacobs industrial area at the weekend, police said.

Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said the shooting took place in Blamey Road on Saturday night. The driver was with his crew when they were accosted by two gunmen.

"They randomly opened fire and the truck driver was fatally wounded," Mdunge said.

ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said a passenger was critically wounded after being struck by a bullet in the head. He was taken to a local hospital and is in a critical condition.

Mdunge said the motive for the shooting was unknown. Charges of murder and attempted murder are being investigated. - Sapa
