The South African Football Players' Union (Safpu) has promised to be more proactive in fighting for members' rights.
This was endorsed at Safpu's three-day congress in Boksburg at the weekend. The gathering culminated in the election of new office bearers for the next three years.
Hareaipha "Simba" Marumo, who was elected Safpu's president unopposed on Sunday, said they would channel all their efforts into serving their members.
"We will look at the issue of provident and pension funds, medical aid and insurance holistically," said Marumo, who was the union's second deputy president.
"We will engage the PSL [Premier Soccer League] in this regard. There is an existing insurance for the players but we want to make the process transparent to the players."
The union intends to march against recent xenophobic attacks in Alexandra on March 25.
The congress also saw the election of Free State Stars' Duncan Lechasa as first deputy president, Tsepo Ntsoane as second deputy president, Teboho Maphaleng as the new general secretary and Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe was retained as an assistant general manager.
