People in the Emfuleni municipal area in the Vaal don't take things lying down.

About 300 ANC members barred councillors from leaving a hall in Vereeniging after the municipal budget speech last week.

They demanded that former mayor Dikeledi Tsotetsi, who was forced to resign, be reinstated.

Sebokeng branch leader Khulu Malindi accused the Emfuleni municipal management of ignoring their views.

"We have lost confidence in the ANC in our region and the provincial leadership," Malindi said.

"We voted for Tsotetsi to stay in power and for suspended municipal manager Manana Bakane-Tuoane to continue with her duties."

The two women were reportedly investigating corrupt municipal employees.

"We support their corruption initiative but they were sacked before their findings could be published," Malindi said.

Cosatu's Vanderbijlpark branch has also raised its concern about the regional ANC leadership.

Alliance secretary Nompi Nhlapo said they were against the decision to force Tsotetsi to resign.
