ABUJA - Bafana Bafana midfielder MacBeth Sibaya is in demand in Russia.

Sibaya's contract with the Russian Premier League side FC Rubin Kazan is set to expire when their season ends in December, but the popular dreadlocked midfielder has already been approached by several clubs.

Kazan top the log and Sibaya is one of their most influential players. Sibaya is one of two South African players plying their trade in Russia. The other is former Bafana defender Matthew Booth.

"There are a number of clubs in Russia and other parts of Europe who have approached me, but I have not decided on the matter," Sibaya told Sowetan after Bafana's training session at the Abuja Stadium in Nigeria on Saturday.

But the 30-year-old refused to name the clubs that are after his signature.

"Rubin also want me to continue playing for them and I have no problem with their request.

"For now, I have decided to focus on my game because we (Rubin) are doing well and are in strong contention to win the league at the end of the year."

Their Premier League has been suspended for the month of June after Russia qualified for the 2008 Euro Cup, which starts in Austria and Switzerland this weekend.

"The Premier League has decided to support the Russian national team. Our league (which runs between January to November) will resume after the Euro Cup," explained Sibaya.

The former Jomo Cosmos player said he was delighted to be recalled for Bafana, saying he was looking forward to helping SA qualify for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Angola and also do well in the 2010 World Cup.

On the relegation of Cosmos from the Premiership to First Division League, Sibaya said: "It is sad but I'm confident that they will soon bounce back."

Ezenkosi, where Sibaya started his professional soccer career almost a decade ago after he was spotted by club owner and coach Jomo Sono, were relegated to the semi-professional division after finishing at the bottom of the Premiership table.
