Almost two years before the historic opening match of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, SABC1 is launching a prime-time magazine show, Countdown 2010, starting broadcasting from June 10, at 6.30pm. The show is to keep viewers informed and involved in the preparation for the largest sports event ever to be held in Africa.

"The show will not only inform viewers about the countdown towards the biggest international event in the world, but will also encourage them to participate and take ownership of it," says Phuthi Moloto, SABC1's brand manager.

"The show will supply viewers with an informed, lively update on issues ranging from the progress of the stadium construction programme, through security, marketing, IT and all other work streams, to find ways in which people can participate in business opportunities related to the tournament."

Talent Attack, a production company in Johannesburg, will deliver the programme and work closely with Fifa and the Local Organising Committee.

Countdown 2010 will be hosted by Fezile Makhanya, Eugene Khoza and Lebo Motsoeli.
