Reconciliation

It is heart-warming that some communities have moved to counter the effect of the wave of xenophobia that swept the country recently by extending a collective hand of reconciliation to African immigrants.

It is heart-warming that some communities have moved to counter the effect of the wave of xenophobia that swept the country recently by extending a collective hand of reconciliation to African immigrants.

At the weekend Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka commended community members of Masiphumelele in Western Cape for welcoming immigrants back into their fold after the township was subjected to xenophobic violence.

Similarly, the community of Mohlaletsi Village in Limpopo will be holding a ceremony today to welcome back immigrants who fled the area.

Such goodwill offers hope for humanity and marks a welcome repudiation of the criminality behind the violence against fellow Africans.
