The majority of the teachers in the country received their backdated salary adjustments after the signing of the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) agreement between them and the Education Department.

The National Teachers Union (Natu) yesterday said a good number of teachers had received far less than they expected.

The teachers' payments arose from an agreement between teacher unions and the department and backdated to January 1 this year.

According to the agreement teachers were to get an increment of between 4percent and 9,9percent, depending on salary scale.

Natu spokesman Allen Thompson said some teachers had not been paid and called on those affected to contact the union.

Education Minister Naledi Pandor said: "This is the first step in implementing the agreement. Task teams have been set up to deal with outstanding issues."
