Seleteng Giant Killers denied Mahwelereng Spikes' hold on the Limpopo Softball Association (LSA) LimDev Super League trophy by beating the defending champions 7-4.

The matches were held at Lebowakgomo diamonds on Saturday.

Snakes, as Spikes are known in softball circles, have won the title two years in succession; had they won it on Saturday they would have taken the trophy for keeps.

The victory was also sweet revenge for Killers after Spikes clinched the league title last season, as Killers failed to reach the required seven runs against them then.

Lebowakgomo stadium was packed to capacity by disciplined softball supporters.

Killers started the day on the right footing when they pipped Moletlane Texas 9-3, while Spikes also had an easy assignment against the hosts Lebowakgomo Wildbeasts through an 11-1 whipping.

Hlakano Dodgers survived the relegation axe when they beat Mamaolo Rebels 7-2, to push Sebayeng Sharks to the regional league next season.

"Our game plan was to use short balls, something that worked for us. All the boys were eager to take revenge against Spikes. We managed to defend well so we beat them" Sello 'Zoro' Rampedi, Killers' coach said. Spikes accepted defeat graciously.
