The 2008 Youth Month Programme was launched at the Hector Pieterson Museum in Soweto by MEC for sport, art, culture and recreation Barbara Creecy and the Gauteng Youth Commission yesterday.

An audience of about 50 people and members of the media were informed about the schedule of events leading up to Youth Day on June 16.

The event was opened by Seth Mazibuko of the 1976 Foundation, who implored the youth to help stop the xenophobic violence in the townships.

Creecy said the needs of the youth must be prioritised.
