A Limpopo man who allegedly shot and killed his wife was denied bail by the Polokwane magistrate's court yesterday.

The 43-year-old accused, Steven Walkins, was arrested on Tuesday after lengthy police investigations linked him to the murder of his wife.

His wife Rehaab, 40, died in January on Voortrekker Street in Polokwane after she was shot in the head, allegedly by her husband.

Police said Walkins lied to them and said his wife mistakenly shot herself when she tried to hand him the gun.

Polokwane police spokesman Mohlaka Mashiane said the accused was linked to the murder by police investigations.

Walkins was charged with murder because police believe he has to answer more questions about the death of his wife.

Walkins was not asked to plead and the case was postponed to June 9 for a formal bail application.
