Ehlanzeni district municipality executive mayor Constance Mkhonto has reshuffled her committee to boost service delivery.

Mkhonto announced the reshuffle on Wednesday after an assessment of the service delivery capabilities of several members of the mayoral committee (MMC).

She said changes were necessitated by the need to strengthen the government's capacity to deliver on its mandate and improve both the pace and quality of service delivery.

To address these challenges, Mkhonto decided to not only move MMC for finance Margaret Chembeni-Sahi to local economic development and tourism and replace her with Mary Mochekoane, formerly of community services, but also moved MMC for corporate services Letta Shongwe to community services.

Benedict Machego, who was in charge of transversal programmes, has moved to corporate services, while newly-appointed MMC Flominah Sisana Timba takes over the transversal section.

MMC for technical services Jimmy Mnisi and deputy mayor Selby Khumalo retain their positions.

"It is significant that I have chosen to retain the same team, but deploy them in areas where I am confident they will make more impact," said Mkhonto.

Former district municipal MMC for economic development and tourism Caswel Maluleke has risen to the third most powerful position in the Ehlanzeni municipality's council.

He has been elected speaker of the council.

His election follows the death of former speaker, Thandiwe Dilebo.

Maluleke has acted as speaker before, served as mayor of former Bohlabela municipality for five years, and was Midlands mayor in Bushbuckridge.
