In football they talk about the end of a season as if there will be a vacuum until the beginning of the next.

In reality what it means is that teams have finished a particular league programme, and can now engage in games of their choice while also having the time to exchange players in transfer deals that are designed to bring success in the next campaign.

So while it may seem like a break in the game, it is still business as usual for the game of billions with continental challenges being high priority and other leagues in full swing.

The 2008 Ligue 1 in Ivory Coast is one such league and features in this week's highlights of the African Soccer Television show, which airs on SABC1 Sport's Laduma programme on Sundays, which recently celebrated its 400th episode .

The round 11 matches in Ivory Coast's top league saw Issia Wazi and Denguele play to an exciting 2 all draw in a weekend of stalemates as teams went all out to consolidate their log positions.

JCA and SOA shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw while local giants Asec Mimosas and Africa Sports played to a 2-2 final score in another thrill-a-minute encounter.

The Confederation of African Football's newest competition, the African Nations Championship 2008 is also in full swing and the first round, second leg game between Angola and Mozambique, which Angola won 1-0, is among the highlights.

So too is Morocco's 3-1 win on penalties against a stubborn Algeria who had held on to a 1-1 draw in open play.
