Child refugees have the same rights as South African children and are entitled to assistance from the government, organisations for migrants and refugees said yesterday.

They include the right to education, shelter, healthcare services and social grants, said Sicel'mpilo Shange-Buthane of the Consortium of Refugees and Migrants in South Africa.

"Through the Department of Social Development, the government is obliged to ensure that all the interests of the children are met," she said. - Namhla Tshisela
