Like many Mercedes-Benz cars, the CLS will always stand in the high league of beautiful cars. A few years ago, the CLS entered the market, making a name for itself.
The sleek traditional appearance left many shivering in admiration. The CLS range has gone through its midlife facelift, it appears even better. The new CLS range was launched in Cape Town alongside its siblings, the SL and the SLK.
Being a large saloon coupe, the CLS became my choice at the launch. The new CLS has emerged from a better car to the best. The beauties parked outside the Grand Arabella Hotel in Cape Town.
Like a typical Mercedes-Benz, the new CLS is equipped with many technological and comfort features. The CLS is even more irresistible.
This one-of-a-kind four-door coupé has now been fine-tuned to give it an added appeal.
The CLS 63 AMG is the flagship in the range is, with its 6,2-litre V8 AMG engine producing 378k. This comes with 19-inch AMG light alloy wheels plus a new AMG exhaust system.
"Understated but masterly neatly sums up the result of the restyling programme for the CLS range," said Eckart Mayer, divisional manager, Mercedes-Benz cars division.
At the front, it is the modified radiator grille that stands out, with two louvres now, instead of the previous four. The diamond-shaped, three dimensional grilles painted in atlas grey that cover the air intakes project an even greater air of self-assurance as well as adding further emphasis to the vehicle's width. The exterior mirrors have also been given a new look. The LED side indicator lamps that are built into them are arranged in the form of an arrow to produce a most eye-catching effect, especially in the dark.
Features include speed-sensitive volume control, a keypad for entering telephone numbers and radio frequencies, an MP3 compatible CD and DVD player, as well as Bluetooth interface which can establish a wireless connection between a mobile phone and the vehicle's hands-free system.
All in all, the CLS is the car for those who want to extend their comfort into their cars.
