The South African Football Players Union meet at a time when South Africa is engulfed by hateful attacks on foreigners - an issue that has the union deeply worried.

This is understandable, considering that most Safpu members are fellow Africans from elsewhere on the continent and are here to sell their skills.

Not surprisingly, this topic should generate as much heated debate as the players' battle for decent salaries.

With the 2010 World Cup finals approaching, Safpu delegates will have to grapple with many other issues that need their urgent attention.
