It never rains but pours in the Emfuleni municipality in Vaal.

Yesterday police had to disperse a group of Tshepiso residents who had stormed the municipal building in Vanderbijlpark and occupied the mayoral parlour.

The irate group were there to complain about corruption in the municipality.

They said they had been on the housing waiting list since 1996 and were being ignored.

They alleged that corrupt council officials were selling houses.

Some said they were forcibly removed from their houses at night to make make way for new occupants who were not on the list.

They accused former councillor Nkosana Msibi of colluding with corrupt officials in the alleged housing scam.

Mavis Langa, 42, said she was evicted from her house last Thursday.

"Msibi told me to vacate the house, saying it does not belong to me," Langa said.

ANC chief whip in the municipality Thulani Kunene had to intervene and persuade the group to leave.

Kunene said their grievances would be addressed, but the group threatened to deal with Msibi.

Msibi rejected the allegations against him as baseless, saying he was not corrupt.

"If they think I am corrupt they must take it to the highest court and prove it," he said. "I'm not afraid to be arrested. I know who is corrupt and am willing to prove it."
