Lists of preferred persons to sit on the new board of Boxing SA have been submitted and the rest remains with Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile, who will appoint the new board at the end of this month.

Three names that appear prominently on most lists are those of Sakhiwo Sodo, Andile Sdinile and Mxolisi Tsika. These three gentlemen are from Eastern Cape.

Sodo is serving on the existing BSA board. If background as an administrator is anything to go by then Sodo and Sdinile must be in the new board.

Sodo was part of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca), which met in Harare in the 1980s to discuss the question of South Africa's re-entry into international sport.

He is a founder member of the SA National Amateur Boxing Organisation that was established in 1991, and holds a bible of certificates after excelling as an administrator in the corporate world and in sport.

Sdinile was chairman of the committee that revived boxing at the University of Fort Hare. He was also a member of the South African National Coordinating Council that was formed in 1988 with its aim to transform boxing.

Sdinile has served alongside top administrators such as Solly Selebi (another candidate for the BSA board), Khaya Ngqula (chief executive of SAA) and Khulile Radu (former chairman of the Eastern Cape Boxing Commission). Sdinile said three years ago he designed the development boxing programme that was adopted by Stofile, known today as the Baby Champs.

This graduate from Fort Hare is the chief executive of Dimension Development Networks.

Meanwhile nothing is known about Tsika, but there are rumours he is the former Buffalo City municipal manager.
