BAMAKO, Mali - In an attack on an army camp in northeastern Mali, 17 Tuareg rebels and 15 soldiers were killed in one of the bloodiest clashes in a revolt by the desert insurgents, the government said yesterday.

Military officers said the rebel attack late on Tuesday against the garrison at Abebara was a worrying escalation of the revolt in Mali's Saharan region.

We think it's a coalition of all the rebel bands," said one officer. - Reuters
