Nearly 300 members of the SA Communist Party in the Mopani district, Limpopo, picketed outside the Tzaneen Medi-Clinic yesterday in support of a recent call by the Minister of Health to regulate the private healthcare industry.

The SACP declared yesterday a "national day of action" in its attempts to enforce its call for all emergency cases to be stabilised at the nearest health facility - private or public - even if such patients do not have medical aid.

The party's district coordinator, Sydwell Sibanda, said the action formed part of the Red October Campaign, aimed at fighting poverty in communities around the country.

"Our campaign targets mainly private health facilities because that is where our communities experience difficulties," Sibanda said.
