Five political parties were given permission yesterday to join a bid in the Pretoria high court to save the Scorpions.

Five political parties were given permission yesterday to join a bid in the Pretoria high court to save the Scorpions.

Judge Willie van der Merwe ruled that the ACDP, DA, ID, IFP and UDM be made friends of the court.

They would now be able to argue in the case brought by Johannesburg businessman Hugh Glenister to prevent the government from disbanding the Scorpions.

Glenister's legal counsel, David Unterhalter SC, argued that the government had broken the trust of the people by taking a decision to disband the Scorpions.

He said the government was required to act in the public interest. - Sapa
