The race for Limpopo Softball Association (LSA's) LimDev Super League title has become a two-horse tussle between log leaders Mahwelereng Spikes and Seleteng Giant Killers.

Moletlane Texas fell off the pace after they were pipped 5-3 by defending champions Spikes during league matches at Mahweleng diamonds on Sunday.

Another team that dropped out of the title race is Lebowakgomo Wild Beasts who suffered a surprise 6-4 defeat to the improving Seshego Cannons, and drew with struggling Mamaolo Rebels.

Spikes collected six points against Texas and Seshego Raiders and they have two matches to play, against Wild Beasts and Killers. They have amassed 60 points from 20 outings, while second-placed Killers have 51 with four matches to complete the programme. Killers need to beat Spikes by more than three runs, as Spikes beat them 4-2 in the first round. A win for the Mahwelereng team is enough to see them defend the title.

At the bottom of the log, Sebayeng Sharks and Mashite Eagles are the favourite relegation contenders, with Hlakano Dodgers having an outside chance of avoiding the drop.

"We are satisfied with the running of this current season that went well without serious disturbance," Polelo Masola, LSA's general secretary, said yesterday.

"I want to commend the teams for the behaviour and attitude. We believe that we have reached a staged that we have wished for - good governance of softball in the province."
