The South African Council of Churches (SACC) in Limpopo will introduce an educational programme on xenophobia to teach people about the dangers of hating foreigners.
The programme will also educate communities that foreigners were also people.
This was announced by SACC general-secretary Reverend Mautji Pataki at the end of the provincial 40th anniversary celebration at the Cosmo Leisure in Polokwane at the weekend.
The announcement follows the recent outbreak of xenophobic violence that have already claimed the lives of 11 people, with several others sustaining serious injuries, especially in Gauteng.
Pataki said the council fears the attacks will also spread to Limpopo if not prevented.
He said a full educational programme will be tabled, after which branches will be able to roll it out to communities around the province.
"As the council that deals with humanity more than any other organisation in the province, we are concerned about these incidents, and feel something has to be done to prevent this from happening," said Pataki.
The event was attended by Christians from various church denominations in the province.
MEC for education Aaron Motsoaledi congratulated the SACC for its efforts in making sure that the wellbeing of South Africans was taken care of.
