Court ruling on HIV in defence force correct

Our country is faced with an avalanche of challenges ranging from HIV-Aids, multi-drug resistant TB, soaring prices and unrelenting Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni.

But I am pleased that the Constitutional Court has ruled against the HIV policy used by the SANDF to stigmatise and discriminate against people with HIV and Aids.

People such as Judge Edwin Cameron, Zackie Achmat and Lucky Mazibuko show that HIV is not a disability but a manageable chronic infection. They have shown that despite their disease they can excel in their careers.

Mpho Ramokolo, Nelspruit
