Riot Hlatshwayo

A police captain in a marked police car was arrested for drunken driving minutes after he had almost collided with a state car from the office of Mpumalanga Premier Thabang Makwetla.

Mhala police captain Arthur Ndlovu was arrested by his Hazyview colleagues after the occupants of a car from the premier's office complained that a police car was "dancing along the streets" on Sunday afternoon.

Ndlovu, who has been working at Mhala police station since the late seventies, was driving a police vehicle when the incident happened. He was allegedly driving along the Hazyview/Bushbuckridge road when he nearly collided with a number of vehicles, including the one from the office of premier Makwetla, pictured.

"The occupants of the vehicle from the premier's office immediately drove to Hazyview police station and laid a charge," Mpumalanga police spokesman Superintendent Abie Khoabane said yesterday .

Khoabane said the police gave chase and managed to pull the car off the road a few kilometers away. Ndlovu was allegedly aggressive during his arrest. He allegedly smashed a breathalyser on the road when they tried to use it on him.
