Absa has distanced itself from an ATM safety PIN e-mail that claims that if an ATM user types in a PIN in reverse, the police will come to his or her rescue.

Absa has distanced itself from an ATM safety PIN e-mail that claims that if an ATM user types in a PIN in reverse, the police will come to his or her rescue.

The e-mail states that if your PIN number is 1234 and you enter 4321, the ATM will recognise that your PIN number is reversed from the ATM card you placed in the machine.

Says Allen Mahadeo, general manager of Self Service Channel: "We want to warn our customers that this 'ATM PIN reversal functionality' does not exist at Absa ATMs."
