Two Free State policemen are facing possible suspension after removing 12 bottles of red wine from an accident scene, police said yesterday.

Two Free State policemen are facing possible suspension after removing 12 bottles of red wine from an accident scene, police said yesterday.

Sergeant Thandi Mbambo said the wine was allegedly stolen when a truck overturned on the N1 freeway 15km north of Edenburg last week.

The crime intelligence unit in Bloemfontein received information that there were police officers in possession of suspected stolen property. The information was followed up and the wine was apparently found in their houses.

Police said the officers, Inspector Oupa van Everrie, 36, and Inspector Daniel Shopane, 38, appeared in the Edenburg magistrate's court on Monday. They were released on bail of R500 each and face charges of possession of suspected stolen property. - Sapa
