Three armed and dangerous members of the notorious Hammer Gang who escaped from the Johannesburg magistrate's court last week are still at large.

The gang targeted banks and usually used a sledge hammer to smash the glass separating tellers and clients.

The fourth accused, Duma Dube, 31, was re-arrested at the scene after they overpowered a court orderly.

Dube now faces two additional charges of attempting to escape from lawful custody and assault.

Those who escaped are Zimbabwean nationals Brighton Sibanda, 38, and Richard Dube, 31, and South African Lindiziwe Mkhize, 34.

Police have warned the public not to confront the criminals but to phone Crime Stop on 086 001 0111.
